The RNFA role exists to provide opportunity for surgical assistant practice over a period of two years to support achievement of certification requirements for progression to the CRNFA role.īachelor's degree required or in progress at time of hire with completion within 24 months of hire.ĪORN approved RNFA certificate of program completion required. This position requires flexibility of hours. Maintains practice in accordance with organizational standardized procedures, scope of practice, credentials, privileges, experience, education and competency verification. The RNFA does not concurrently function as an assistant and a surgical scrub or circulating RN. Functions as an RN first assistant during operative and other invasive procedures, while maintaining the ability to function in additional roles including but not limited to circulating nurse, surgical scrub, and PFC when required. Responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care through the continuum of perioperative care, including preoperative, intraoperative surgeon assistance, and postoperative care for all patient populations. The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) is a frontline perioperative registered nurse leader who functions in an expanded role, working in collaboration with the surgeon and health care team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes and improve efficiency of operations.
